Comments about the Holocaust from representative sponsoring ‘divisive concepts’ bill raise concerns

In the debate over the divisive concept bill which could change the way topics considered controversial are taught in public institutions.

There are moments in our history where there are not two sides to debate,” said James Pasch, regional director of the Anti-Defamation League. “There is a right side and a wrong side.”In the case of the Holocaust, we’re talking about state-sponsored mass murder,” Dahlia Fisher with the Maltz Museum, said.

What started the controversy is State Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula) commented on the two sides of a debate  Maybe you’re listening to it from the perspective of a Jewish person that has gone through the tragedies that took place, and maybe you listen to it from the perspective of a German soldier.”

Pasch commented there are very few things that would be worse than distorting the history of the Holocaust.

First of all it is disturbing to note that surveys Reveal a Significant Number Of Millennial’s and Gen Z Can’t Name A Single Concentration Camp Or Ghetto, Believe That Two Million Or Fewer Jews Were Killed And A Concerning Percentage Believe That Jews Caused The Holocaust.

That is very concerning, as matter of fact in New York state governor Kathy Hochul signed into law the Holocaust Education Bill mandating schools to put studies of the holocaust into the curriculum.

Mr. Pasch is correct that distorting the history of the holocaust would be terrible, however it is important to see all sides of the equation and not to rewrite history, but to prevent it from happening again. The perfect example is the German soldier. What made him follow the Nazi ideology? Did he agree with it? Did he have guilt from it?

Right now in the Ukraine there are groups of Russian soldiers that are refusing to fight because they have had enough of the war. Will history note this?
