On last week’s show we did a segment on a Georgia law that just was passed that made it legal to carry guns into bars, Churches and Schools.
House Bill 60, or the Safe Carry Protection Act of 2014 — which opponents have nicknamed the “guns everywhere bill” — specifies where Georgia residents can carry weapons. Included are provisions that allow residents who have concealed carry permits to take guns into some bars, churches, school zones, government buildings and certain parts of airports.
Davin called it stupid and irresponsible. I on the other hand think it is a good idea.
It seems to me that more and more that gun violence is affecting our society from a majority of people that have unlawfully obtained guns. In turn the knee jerk reaction is to take the rights of people that legally want to obtain guns for their own protection. Because of the liberal media, all you hear of is stories of unarmed people being victims of crimes, but what you don’t hear much of are people when armed that have protected themselves against such crimes.
Story 1
An 82 year old homeowner in NY was woken up by his wife, who heard something in his shed late at night.
The homeowner grabbed his shotgun and went to investigate.
Inside the shed, the homeowner found a man behind his tractor.
The homeowner said he was about to shoot, but the man stood up and tried to plead with the homeowner.
The homeowner’s wife called 911 while the homeowner held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.
The suspect was booked into jail on burglary charges.
The homeowner had over $1,000 worth of equipment stolen from the same building just three weeks prior.
The homeowner said burglars are taking a tremendous risk with their lives out in the countryside.
This is another great example of a defensive gun use in which no shots were fired, no one was hurt and the bad guy ended up behind bars.
Story 2
A pizza deliveryman in Buffalo, NY found himself the target of a group of four men who tried to rob him as he attempted a delivery.
The deliveryman drew a concealed handgun and opened fire. One of the suspects was hit.
The suspect who was hit was apprehended by police, but the other three suspects managed to escape.
The apprehended suspect is described as being in fair condition at an area hospital.
Police say the deliveryman possesses a valid carry permit and the gun was legally registered.
Story 3
A gunman and two other suspects forced their way inside a two-story, yellow-colored home on Adams Street in East Islip around 2 a.m.
Once inside the home, the suspect armed with a .22 caliber rifle shot the family’s pit bull. A man who One suspect, identified by police as Fred Flock, 27, of Coram, died on the back porch. Another suspect was wounded and hospitalized, police said. A third suspect, identified as Philipe Robinette, 27, of Aquebogue, fled the scene but was later caught by authorities.
Robinette has been charged with burglary.
Residents expressed shock after the violent early morning incident.
“We never have any problems. Nothing ever happens in this neighborhood,” one person said.
“If you have to protect yourself, you have protect yourself. [If] someone breaks into my house, I would probably do the same thing,” another neighbor said.
The dog is expected to survive. The man and two women who live in the home were not injured.
Story 4
AUSTIN (KXAN) – Two people were hurt in a shootout just before noon at a West Campus area construction site near the intersection of Rio Grande Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Austin police are not yet releasing the names of the two men involved but said the suspect was recently fired from the construction site and returned with a gun. He opened fire on the site’s foreman, who drew his own gun and returned fire — hitting the suspect.
Police say the foreman has a Concealed Handgun License and was allowed to have the gun with him at work. Police say the suspect had recently returned to the site and had been threatening the foreman, so a police report was filed.
There are plenty of stories like this which you don’t see because of the liberal media ,But what you do see is random acts of violence against the American public that are having the rights to protect themselves taken away.
The law also states that the Bars and Churches have the discretion to decide if they want guns in their establishment.
We are in a society now due to the breakdown in the family unit, people not getting the mental health care they need due to bureaucracy, the economy being bad, a gang culture in certain urban communities, and an increasing drug problem that gun violence is become more of the norm than ever.
Due to the lack of money, time, social values, and political correctness these problems are not addressed, the liberal media and Politicians focus on Guns because even though it is the end result and not the cause of the problem, everyone can rally around it. But do the core problems get solved? No they do not, and may never.
As a debatable argument as it is, we have the constitutional right to bear arms.
From the examples above I feel if more law abiding citizens were armed a lot of the of the gun violence stories we see every day would be stopped with a lot less loss of life or deterred completely.
Davin stated that in these situations it would be exacerbated if there was some “yahoo” with a gun and then the situation would turn into a Dodge City shootout. I respectfully disagree; most people that get guns legally have been screened and will get some sort of training. Extreme situations such as the unfortunate incidents at the Sandy Hook School and the Colorado Theater may have resulted in less loss of lives if someone was armed.
You will always have you situations like the Trayvon and Zimmerman but you will always have situations in which I have stated above.
We live in a different world, yes we will have gun violence against innocent people, and you will have legal gun owners that will misuse their weapons, but the odds of these situations happening and the loss of life when they do occur would be greatly decrease if more law abiding citizens were armed.
