A Georgia high school coach was suspended after he defended himself and restrained a student who was in possession of a loaded weapon in school.
Miller confronted one female student while in the presence of police officers. Miller and the officers were unaware that the student, whom eyewitnesses described as belligerent and aggressive, had a gun at the time of the confrontation.
The situation escalated when the student hit Miller with a stapler, News 19 reported. Miller then grabbed the girl and restrained her until officers stepped in and took her into custody.
Was Miller wrong to grab the girl when she threw a stapler at him?? At first you can say yes as the police were there. However, from the video the police should have made the first move. Also, if a student throws an object at you, you don’t have the right to defend yourself? This student looks like she is prone to violence and she did have a gun on her possession.
Its good that the school did not fire him and he should not be suspended either. The school stated “Mr. Miller’s conduct resulted in an escalation of a physical altercation with a student in crisis” Miller was assaulted and had every right to defend himself.
This is another kneejerk reaction from a school that has no common sense what so ever. They are more concerned about a violent student with a gun than the welfare of a teacher that is trying to make the school safe from guns.
